THE Centre for Strategic and Policy Studies (CSPS) kicked off its four-day Strategic Foresight and Strategic Planning Workshop recently.
Held for executives in the private and public sectors, the workshop was attended by 43 participants from the private sector and government institutions.
They included DST, Royal Brunei Technical Services, Insurans Islam TAIB Holdings, Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI), the Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Energy, Manpower and Industry, the Ministry of Finance and Economy, the Ministry of Religious Affairs and other government ministries and departments.
The workshop was the first of the two workshops by CSPS this year.
The first two days of the workshop, facilitated by Dr Diana Cheong and Yuzilawati binti Abdullah from CSPS, covered the main principles and foundations of Strategic Foresight. Participants learnt how to use Strategic Foresight tools for policy analysis and decision-making purposes.
Topics included Horizon Scanning and Emerging Issues Analysis, Scenario Building using the Manoa Method and Causal Layered Analysis, Policy Simulation using Backcasting and Policy Ideation using the Futures Action Model. The last two days, meanwhile, guided participants through the 10-step Haines Model of Strategic Management using Systems Thinking.
After the workshop’s completion, participants are expected to work independently on formulating a strategic plan using strategic foresight perspectives as an added dimension.
Their strategic plans are to be referred to as case studies for the second workshop which will be held on August 20-21.
During the second workshop, Regional Managing Partner of Haines Strategic Management Centre Singapore Stephen Lin will talk about the more detailed aspects of strategic planning where participants will share their experiences and draw lessons from their strategic planning case studies.
