The Centre for Strategic and Policy Studies (CSPS), in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC), is spearheading the development of Brunei Darussalam’s first National Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Strategy Framework.
As part of the initiative, a Foresight and Focus Group Workshop was held from July 8 to 10 at Dewan Sukma, CSPS. The workshop formed a key component of the project’s environmental scanning process, designed to assess the current state of the nation’s STI system and gather insights from major stakeholders.
The three-day session brought together representatives from government agencies, academia, research institutions, and industry for in-depth discussions on the future of Brunei’s STI landscape. Using strategic foresight methodologies and scenario planning exercises, participants explored key trends, challenges, and opportunities likely to shape the national STI ecosystem over the next five to ten years.
The workshop featured structured group dialogues, scenario-based exercises, and prioritisation activities to map out the drivers of STI-led transformation. The outcomes will inform the formulation of a long-term vision, strategic priorities, and action plan for STI development in the Sultanate.
CSPS and MTIC underscored the importance of stakeholder collaboration in crafting an inclusive and future-ready STI framework, viewing the initiative as a critical step in building a resilient, knowledge-based economy aligned with Brunei Vision 2035.
