Welcome to CSPS
 
The Centre for Strategic and Policy Studies (CSPS) was officially established on July 1st, 2006. It is a Corporate Body and is governed by the "Centre for Strategic and Policy Studies" Act 2006, Brunei Darussalam. According to the CSPS Act 2006, under Article 83(3) Section 13 (a), it is stated that the function of the Centre shall include “the advancement and dissemination of knowledge and the promotion of research on Brunei Darussalam and on all matters appertaining to Brunei Darussalam’s interests”.
 
The establishment of the Centre is seen as a mechanism for inputting information to relevant stakeholders to facilitate intelligent, informed and educated decision-making. It could also play a role in monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the current policies to make policy refinements, terminations or other policy decisions possible.

The above function is carried out through research activities as its core function and various avenues such as seminars and conferences for individuals, experts and intellectuals to exchange views on identified issues that are of interest to the Country. The Centre’s Board has identified priorities or areas of focus at the initial phase of its operation, namely:
 
Economic Diversification
The project is focused on understanding the failure of the diversification efforts made so far to develop non-oil and gas sectors and to investigate how to diversify and to increase revenue from the non-oil sectors.
 
Youth and Unemployment
This project looks into the problem of the rising number of job seekers despite significant number of foreign workers in Brunei.
     
Social Security
This project looks into the social security dimensions of Brunei, with specific focus on the post retirement welfare system.
 
Education Policy
The project addresses the ‘gaps’ in the education system which will secure the development of the manpower needs required by the country especially to support the economic diversification efforts.
