Some 45 participants comprising Legislative Council members, youth leaders as well as representatives from the public and private sectors and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) concluded the three-day workshop on formulating the revised framework for the National Youth Policy on Friday.
Centre for Strategic and Policy Studies (CSPS) Chief Researcher Dr Diana Cheong facilitated the workshop where she shared the latest youth surveys conducted by the government-led corporate body.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin in his opening remarks at the start of the workshop emphasised the need to review the National Youth Policy.
This is to ensure that Brunei’s youth are able to drive the nation towards the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the achievement of Vision 2035 while upholding the Sultanate’s Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB) way of life, in line with the titah of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, at the start of the year.
The minister also commended the diversity of the participants at the workshop and expressed his appreciation for their participation on the very important endeavour.
According to a CSPS press release, the survey was conducted to ensure that youth policy recommendations are evidence-based and take into account the real needs of the nation and its youth.
To date, CSPS has surveyed a total of 3,177 respondents, a sample size which provides 99 per cent confidence level.
The domains covered in the survey included Health, Loyalty to the Country, Personal Safety, Leisure Activities, Political Participation, Employment Opportunity, Educational Performance, Self Potential, Community Integration, and Self Development.
The outcome of the workshop will be tentatively shared in February whereas the revised National Youth Policy will be launched later in August.
