Summit discusses human resource development

The Initiate Human Capital Summit 2021, a full-day convention and a platform that connects people with human resources (HR) practitioners, was the first ever collaboration between Grominda Sdn Bhd and Perspective Insan Academy at the Main Auditorium, Design and Technology (D&T) Building yesterday.

Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, in his capacity as Chairman of Manpower Planning and Employment Council (MPEC), was the guest of honour at the opening session.

The summit began with welcoming remarks from Grominda CEO Aiman Minorhadi followed by an opening speech from the minister. It proceeded with an extension of appreciation to Initiate’s sponsors – BIBD, DARe (Darussalam Enterprise) and Progresif Sdn Bhd.

It continued with a plenary forum moderated by Anthony Sigar of Grominda with panellists Marzalenie binti Haji Omar from the MPEC Secretariat, Hajah Zainab binti Haji MA Omar from Brunei Shell Petroleum Co Sdn Bhd, Pengiran Dr Siti Rozaidah binti Pengiran Haji Idris from Universiti Brunei Darussalam’s School of Business and Economics, Haji Muhammad Saufi bin Haji Jamahat from DotRoot Sdn Bhd and Lim Chui Hian from BIBD.

Following the forum, participants attended a networking luncheon with mentors from Brunei Mentors for Entrepreneurs Network (BMEN) and Brunei Human Resource Society where they interacted with fellow practitioners from various industries.

The summit continued with workshops divided on ‘Human Resources Management Systems’ (HRMS), ‘Human Resources Development’ and ‘Human Resources Future’.

Dayangku Siti Farhanna binti Pengiran Haji Md Putra and Muhammad Wafiuddin bin Saipol Bahrin from Cendana, Dayangku Hazimah binti Pengiran Sabri and Nick Pudupully from Nuara Group, and Simon Soo from Track&ROLL were the facilitators for the ‘HRMS’ while Human Resources Development topic was facilitated by Nor Azarina binti Haji Moksin from Civil Service Institute, Siti Nabilah binti Haji Abu Nipah and Muhammad Burhanuddin bin Nazamsah from Lifelong Learning Centre at the Ministry of Education, Lailatul Zubaidah binti Hussain from Damai Mediation and Felicity Chan from the Industry Business Academy.

Speakers Marzalenie and Pengiran Hajah Nurul Ihsan binti Pengiran Haji Damit from MPEC and Dr Diana Cheong from the Centre for Strategic and Policy Studies were the facilitators at the ‘Human Resources Future’ workshop.

Created to provide an opportunity for locals and other residents to discuss human capital development in Brunei, the event gathered participants in the HR industry and those with interests in the field.

The summit aimed to establish the HR practitioners’ network in the country, promote competency through hard and soft skills and discover the best HR practices from experts.

Among the attendees were Legislative Council member and CEO and lead trainer of Perspective Insan Academy Yang Berhormat Iswandy bin Ahmad, representatives from Initiate strategic venue and media partners from the MPEC, DARe and BizBrunei.

Also in attendance were participants from government sectors, including students, and private companies.
