- Social Security Roundtable 2007: Roundtable Report, American Insurance Group (AIG)
The American Insurance Group (AIG) provided a report describing the Supplemental Contributory Plan (now called Retirement Income Plan) which was presented during the Social Security Roundtable 2007. The study is designed to enhance Brunei's current pension system for employees who began work after 1992 by mandating contributions targeted for lifetime monthly income during retirement.
A new Retirement Income Plan (RI Plan) was designed to complement the existing Old Age Pension (OAP) and Employees Trust Fund (TAP) programmes. The RI Plan is intended to focus exclusively on creating additional retirement income benefits. |

A number of weaknesses were addressed and recommendations in the report indicated how to create a better enabling environment and how the government can play a pro-active role in the country's development.

Brunei Pension Report, The World Bank
The World Bank prepared an evaluation of policy options for the establishment of a Supplementary Contributory Pension Scheme (SCP) and related life insurance policy. In order to supplement the minimum amount currently provided under the Old Age Pension (OAP) to those citizens and permanent residents who have reached the age of 60, the report proposed a SCP delivered through the existing institutions, being the Government Pension Scheme (GPS) and the Employees Trust Fund (TAP).
This report examined the provision of mandatory pension and survivorship benefits by mandatory pension schemes in Brunei including the benefit entitlements provided to retirees at different income levels and identified weaknesses in the current policy framework.
