MTIC and CSPS sign agreement to develop Brunei’s first National STI Strategy

JUNE 11, 2025

The Centre for Strategic and Policy Studies (CSPS) has signed an agreement with the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC) to develop Brunei Darussalam’s first National Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Strategy.

The agreement was signed by Yang Mulia Awang Haji Hairul Mohd Daud bin Haji Abdul Karim, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Infocommunications), on behalf of MTIC, and Yang Mulia Dr Diana Cheong, Executive Director and Chief Researcher, on behalf of CSPS.

This initiative marks a significant step toward the development of a comprehensive five-year roadmap aimed at strengthening Brunei’s innovation ecosystem, drive socio-economic development, and aligning national efforts with international standards. Supporting the objectives of Wawasan Brunei 2035, the Strategy seeks to elevate the country’s standing in global innovation rankings.

The formulation of the Strategy will involve extensive stakeholder engagement across government, academia, and industry through a series of consultations, workshops, and forums. It will articulate strategic thrusts, actionable plans, and measurable performance indicators to guide the effective implementation of STI initiatives across key domains.

CSPS and MTIC view this collaboration as a pivotal milestone in advancing Brunei Darussalam’s vision of becoming a more innovative, inclusive, and knowledge-based economy.
